First, I'd like to apologize for the lack of blog posts. I'm trying to get all my 2009 photos posted onto Flickr. Anyways, came across this awesome clip with with Jay Leno getting roasted by Jimmy Kimmel in an interview.

The roast is around the feud of Jay Leno wanting to take his show slot back from Conan O'Brien.

Somali Pirates Accidentally Attack French Navy

I came across this amusing article on Yahoo News entitled, "Somali pirate error ends with 5 in French brig."

Somali pirates in two skiffs fired on a French navy vessel early Wednesday after apparently mistaking it for a commercial boat, the French military said. The French ship gave chase and captured five suspected pirates.

No one was wounded by the volleys from the Kalashnikov rifles directed at La Somme, a 3,800-ton refueling ship, French military spokesman Rear Adm. Christophe Prazuck said.

La Somme "was probably taken for a commercial ship by the two small skiffs" about 250 nautical miles (290 statute miles) off Somalia's coast, Prazuck said.

"They understood their mistake too late," he said.

One skiff fled, and La Somme pursued the second one in an hour-long chase.

"There were five suspected pirates on board. No arms, no water, no food," Prazuck said.

Awesome Wedding Video

So, I've been insanely busy this week, and that's why I haven't been posting blog articles. Basically right after the Searchpad launch happened, I got transferred to another crazy project.

In either case, I saw this on reddit this morning under the title, "Until 0:27, it seems like an ordinary wedding video. Then it gets awesome." This just seemed appropriate to post as a lot of my friends are getting married right now. So, this one's dedicated to those friends.

Professional Snipers Hired To Guard Penguins

I just saw this headline from the BBC that caught my attention. The article is entitled, "Penguin deaths prompt sniper aid."

Professional snipers have been brought in to guard a vulnerable colony of penguins in Australia.

The deployment follows the mysterious deaths of nine of the flightless birds over the last two weeks.

The mutilated bodies of the animals, known as fairy penguins, were found in a national park near Sydney harbour.

The main suspects are dogs and foxes. At 40cm tall, the world's smallest penguin species is clearly no match for such aggressive enemies.

To even up the fight, two snipers have been deployed as bodyguards.

They have started night patrols and have instructions to do what it takes to protect these tiny creatures.

They have joined a legion of volunteers, who have also been guarding the birds during the hours of darkness when they are most vulnerable to attack.

Traps have been also been set in a concerted attempt to catch Sydney's penguin killers.

See anti-gun nuts, there are some positive applications of firepower! I wonder what the meeting would have looked like when some conservationists put out a call for executive protection for a high value target. Did they go to Blackwater and ask for elite snipers? I imagine the snipers asking who the client was, and they were handed pictures of some adorable penguins. Pretty hardcore.

The Psychology of Incompetence

I got this awesome video from ptr entitled, "The Psychology of Incompetence", by Ron Burk. The speaker tries to tackle why software is so buggy and awful, and it basically boils down to incompetent leadership and incompetent programmers. The talk is pretty amusing and funny.

It was quite refreshing to watch this as I have seen some pretty epic fails as of late in the software world.

Friday Flash Fun: Daft Punk

I came across this on reddit. It's a Flash application called the Daft Punk Console. Basically you hit buttons, and it'll play words from various Daft Punk songs. I'm currently listening to the Daft Punk - Alive 2007 album, so this was a timely find.

I'm hoping to try to use this thing on some conference call as a prank. I want to use it to say, "Do it, over", "Make it, faster", or "Never make it harder." Here's "Around The World / Harder Better Stronger Faster" from Daft Punk's Alive 2007 album:

The Roast of McCain & Obama

Looks like last weekend, both Senator McCain and Senator Obama were at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Dinner, and they took turns roasting each other. There's some pretty good material there. Myron, your best friend Keith Olbermann is mocked as well.

I've been watching some of The Daily Show's coverage of the McCain campaign, and some of the people who attend those rallies are just amazing. Observe.

The level of ignorance displayed by the lady at the end is truly jaw dropping.
