Today we had an absolutely awesome Good Friday service at North Douglas Church. I'm going to hazard to say that this was one of the best Good Friday service that I have ever been to. What made it special this year was that 14 churches came together to hold one joint service. Our building was absolutely packed out. Normally, we can comfortablely seat 700 people in our church, but even that wasn't enough. We had to setup overflow seating in the foyer and upstairs balcony.
What was really cool was that all denominations in the city came together to put this on. It didn't matter if you were Alliance, Reformed, Pentecostal, Baptist, Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran, it all didn't matter because we're all on the same side, and we're all here to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It was pretty cool though having 14 churches coordinate a unified service. One church supplied the worship team, two churches supplied the message, one church supplied a multimedia presentation, and our church supplied the communion, facility, and sound/computer crew. It all integrated fairly well.
I had the privilege of coordinating and doing sound for the event. It was by far the largest show that I've ran this year so far. The funny thing is, if you're a sound guy you instinctively go checkout check out another church's system if you're visiting. So, I had a few sound guys come up to the booth and I gave them a tour. They were fairly impressed by our setup. At the end of the show, some of the smaller churches had their tech people come up and ask me a few questions about our computer system as well. In short, I'm pretty proud of our setup here at North Douglas Church.
Anyway, the service was fairly hectic from a setup perspective, but it was worth it. I think everyone really enjoyed the service. There was a lot of energy in the room.
This year's service, we were completely packed out. They're already talking about next year's Good Friday service, and they're thinking about renting out the Save-On-Food Memorial Centre for next year, and filling it with another unified service. I think that's an awesome idea, and it's great that there's increased cooperation and unity between the churches. Traditionally, a lot of churches in Victoria have been fairly protective about their own congregations.
Happy Easter all.
